What is the difference between a Challenger and a Casual Runner?

We’re glad you asked! All runners, whether you are a challenger or a casual runner, receive the same racer t-shirt. And it looks great on everyone! Also, both challengers and casual runners receive their own box of 12 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts! Delicious!! However, the true difference lies in the race itself. All Challengers attempt to complete the entire race, which includes eating all 12 doughnuts, in under 1 hour. Casual runners may choose to try to complete the challenge if they would like, but are not required. For our planning purposes, we will only scrutinize the finished doughnut boxes of those who register as Challengers. But challengers and casual runners alike are encouraged to have as much fun as possible!!

Do you have to eat the doughnuts?

No, you do not. You can register as a casual runner rather than a competitor and eat a few doughnuts or no doughnuts at all. You can also race back to the Belltower with the box of doughnuts.

How much is registration?

Registration for the 2012 Krispy Kreme Challenge will be $20 for NCSU students and $27 for non-NCSU students.

Do I have to run the race to get a t-shirt?

You do not have to run to receive a t-shirt. You can sign up as a Supporter and make a $10 donation for a t-shirt.

Is there water during the race?

We supply water at Krispy Kreme with limited quantities available at the Bell Tower. We recommend you bring your own for after the race.

Can I run with a jogging stroller?

Of course! We want the entire family to have a good time and this includes all of the kids!

I noticed the race route has been increased from 4 miles to 5 miles. Why is that?

We’re committed to providing the safest and best race route for our runners, and in collaboration with the Raleigh Police Department we decided to slightly alter the race route this year. The race route is now approximately 5 miles. Start training now for the most challenging Challenge yet!

  • Dasdas

Technically to beat the challenge, you must do it under an hour, but its all for your gloating and your personal goals. Some runners take over an hour and a half to do this and that’s about when the real-time timing ends on the online scorecards that I can remember.

  • Brian Patterson

    What flavor are the doughnuts?

  • Nicholas Anderson

Of Course! We want the entire family to have a good time and this includes allof the kids!

  • Nicholas Anderson

We generally discourage dogs because of the huge number of participants, but if it is well behaved and kept on a lease, he can run along.

Yes, email KrispyKremeChallenge@gmail.com with the correction.

  • KrispyKremeChallenge

No, there is no limit on the number of team members.

  • KrispyKremeChallenge

It depends on when you registered but most likely. If you like to transfer, email KrispyKremeChallenge@gmail.com, and we’ll get someone to look into it.

  • Krispykremechallenge

There are two large parking decks located nearby on campus. Directions to these lots will be sent out in the race packet which will come out in the next few weeks.

We run the Mt. Marathon Race every year ( 2nd oldest foot race in the U.S.A.) and raise a lot of money doing it…
    “Food” for thought-

The answer to “is there water?” is complete bullshit. This year and for the last several years there has been a serious shortage of water available. I mean really? it’s water, it’s like three fucking cents a gallon

  • Mat

I’m gonna call this the “No water/No results Challenge” from now on.

Great race this year. It would be an improvement, though, to have the challengers begin with a five minute head start so we don’t have to weave through the walkers and other slow-pokes. Seriously, there was a guy pushing a stroller AND walking a pit bull.

  • Jimmy

Where can we find the pictures!!
